Here at AFT Fluorotec Coatings, we offer a bespoke service that is tailored to the needs of each individual client. These FAQs are the mostly commonly asked questions and you can also find more information about the benefits of PTFE coatings in our case studies section.
Because we deal with so many different coatings projects for different industry sectors around the world, it’s difficult to give a general lead time.
We work to your deadlines rather than our own and regularly pull out all the stops to make sure you get your order when you need it.
Our experience means we can give you a quote based on drawings or a discussion over the phone about what you’re looking for. Our technical experts are readily available.
Our coatings can be used on carbon steel, aluminium, stainless steel, steel alloys, brass and magnesium as well as non-metallics such as glass, glass and carbon fibre, some rubber and plastics. Some coating material types are more suited to certain substrates than others. Please ask us for technical advice.
Our PTFE coatings have a wide operating temperature resistance range (-270°C up to +260°C). To find out more about the temperature performance of other material types such as PEEK, FEP, Teflon® and Xylan®, view our coatings materials overview page.
Once we have the details of your order, we’ll look at a number of different areas to calculate your quote. These include:
- Condition of substrate
- Quantity required
- Any surface preparation needed prior to coating
- Collection, handling and shipping
Yes, we can provide a range of colours in certain types of coating. These can make it easier to identify individual product lines in busy bakeries for example.
Yes, we have a grit/shot blast cleaning service to remove your current coating before preparing the surface for effective recoating.
There’s no hard and fast answer to this that covers every coating possibility, but in general it’s usually possible to mask off parts off a substrate so they’re protected when another area is being coated.
Our coatings are mainly applied using either conventional air spray techniques or through the use of electrostatic guns (powder and wet). Other methods include airless spray and fluidized bed processes.
Components approx 1.5m diameter x 2m long can be coated although longer items up to 5m in length can be accommodated depending on other dimensions. Please consult our technical team.
Our recommended polymers for the best chemical resistance are PFA, ECTFE (HALAR) and ETFE (TEFZEL). Some PTFE formulations also offer chemical protection.
Essentially it’s the value assigned to the friction created between two parts. For example, Xylan coatings have a coefficient of friction as low as 0.02

It all depends on the existing scratches/blemishes and the type of coating being applied.
